Visiting Southeast Asia has been a frequent experience for me. I did graduate study there in 1989. Thailand has been a personal favorite in this area, and since my first visit to Bangkok, I’ve gone North to Chang Mai and as far South as the island of Koh Samui.
Thailand has so many extraordinary resorts in a variety of areas and there are many you could pick for an incentive program. I’d recommend considering the island of Phuket.
Phuket is South of Bangkok and North of Koh Samui. It’s a beautiful tropical island of lush surroundings and exquisite resorts. One outstanding example is Andara Resort and Villas. Andara is set on a hill that rises from the Andaman Sea on the upscale west coast of Phuket. It is quite close to the island’s best restaurants, boutiques, and golf resorts. The sands of Kamala Beach are just a short walk from the resort.
Andara resort epitomizes lush luxury living. There are 26 upscale pool villas that range from three bedrooms to six bedrooms, and from 12,900 square feet to 26,900 square feet. These villas are appointed with natural wood, silk and plush sofas and beds. They come complete with full-time housekeeper, chef and a private pool—sheer bliss.
In addition to the pool villas, there are 37 residential villas. Most have private pools and range in size from 2,625 square feet to 9,640 square feet, with one- to four-bedroom configurations.
The Andara shuttles guests to and from its exclusive beach club. In addition, you can escape to the spa with treatments for the body, mind and soul. One of my fondest memories is of a Thai massage on the beach.
With such attention to detail, Andara planned an exemplary dining experience. This was achieved with SILK Restaurant and Bar. Originally established in 2004 at Phuket’s Surin Plaza, it relocated to Andara when the resort opened in December 2009. Whether inside dining or out, this experience will match any.
Chef K. Ooy Supreeda started at SILK in 2004 and brings her 18+ years of experience to lead her team of 17. She creatively combines fresh Thai ingredients with a focus on authenticity, taste, and texture. Time-honored techniques are combined with a modern touch. For those who want a non-Thai approach, she offers an Italian selection of soups, salads, pastas, seafood and pizzas. A key selling point for SILK is that it draws as many locals as tourists, with a high rate of return.
Due to ongoing requests, Chef Supreeda and her team offer Thai cooking classes.
The bar offers classic cocktails, each with its own story, as well as an impressive wine list.
Here is the ultimate bonus: The Andara Resort has two yachts for charter—either for the day or overnight.
The Andara is an 85 foot Baglietto Italian yacht that is 85 feet long, with a 1,250 horsepower engine. It allows cruising at 18 knots with a maximum speed of 21 knots.
This yacht accommodates a maximum of 16 guests for day or half-day charter. For overnight charter for up to two nights and three days, it is limited to six adults and two children. A master cabin, a double, and two twins are featured.
The Andara is appointed with everything imaginable, from air-conditioning, visual and audio entertainment, to a full crew, including private chef and hostess.
The resort’s second yacht is the Celebrity. At 107 feet, this Baglietto Italian yacht offers all of the same amenities. It has a 2,500 horsepower engine and a cruising speed of 25 knots with the maximum of 28 knots.
The maximum number of guests for this half day or full day charter is 25. For overnights for a maximum of six nights, there is room for eight adults and four children. A master cabin, two doubles and two twins are available.
A stay at any part of Andara would represent an ideal incentive reward or a wonderful luxurious vacation.
